Conte crayons and ink on Bristol board - 7-1/4" X 9-1/2"

Woman and baby - Late 1800s - From old family photo

September 6, 2008

I have worked on this off and on (mostly off) for years now. I had tried to change the shape of the woman's face (because I had it wrong) the last time I worked on it, using some white paint, but now that area is rough, as you can see (at the front of the woman's face) and also the baby's hand looks webbed. I don't know if I can save this, but I though I was really going to like it until I realized I had to change the face. It's especially hard to do because it's done on Bristol board, which can't take much -- If I were painting this on canvas or very tough canvas-like paper, I could probably save it. -- Jean
