Mug Shots - Al Capone

MORE MUGSHOT DRAWINGS....MUGSHOT DRAWINGS ECARDS

Alphonse Gabriel Capone (Jan. 17, 1899 - Jan. 25, 1947), also known as Al Capone or just "Scarface." Gangster, murderer. Active in the 1920s and 30s. Believed to be responsible for the Valentine's Day Massacre. In spite of his ruthless, murderous, life of crime he was beloved by many people of low income because of his help to the needy (especially Italian-Americans) and also due to his making liquor available during the Prohibition. In these mug shots he looks baby-faced, prosperous, and friendly. Maybe he was all of those things, but he was also a ruthless murderer. In later mug shots he looked quite different - not more murderous but plain, homely, and broken down.

I hadn't worked on this drawing since September, 2009. This is my first attempt to start it over from scratch. I'll need to start it yet again, but I'll work on this one for a while first. I started this with a 6B pencil and I'm adding ink now (with a BIC pen). I'm having the most trouble with the full face view so I started on that first and have barely touched the profile view with the pen. Today I worked mostly on his left eye. The photograph of the picture is not of good quality (to say the least) for two reasons: One is that I no longer have a decent camera (my Nikon broke and then I bought a Kodak camera that wasn't nearly as good as I thought it would be, and so I bought via EBay a used Nikon like my last one that was badly damaged but I could not return it -- It had said "No returns" but I trusted the seller. And so I'm left with an old camera that doesn't work well. The second reason for the lousy photograph is that recently my tripod broke a leg and now I have to just hold the camera myself without any support).
