Maury Kettell has some really nice paintings of abandoned cars. .There is a link to a page where he demonstrates every step in making one of his paintings, which I found very interesting.

This site is listed in the "JUNKYARD PHOTO" section, but you can also find plenty of George Davis' artwork on that site. The artist is the owner of the Cool Old truck site. Mr. Davis has a small auto repair shop in Dickinson, North Dakota, where he specializes in restoring old trucks. .He's also an "iron" artist and produces iron artwork during the winter when the repair and restoration business is slow. Click on the link at the BOTTOM RIGHT on the first page of the Cool Old Truck site (the link is called "Index, list of vehicles, and art"). On the page you get to, you'll find lots of links to photos of old cars and truck pictures at the top -- Below those photo links are the links to artworks (look for the words "Iron Art" at the left side of the page). Example of Davis' silhouette art - on mudflaps There is IRON SCULPTURE, which Mr. Davis has designed and welded, and there is also a great variety of IRON 'SILHOUETTE' ART (cut out by Mr. Davis) that can be ordered in any size, which is the reason why no dimensions are given for those. .The prices refer to those of the silhouettes he has available, but you can order any of the designs to be made especially for you in any size. "Muffler Man tracking project is focused on the giant commercial fiberglass statues that often hold mufflers. We sometimes receive tips on men and creatures sculptured from actual mufflers. These works can be found across America, often the spontaneous creations of individuals at auto repair shops. The more elaborate work of muffler artistes is certainly worth noting, but we separate such tips from the main Muffler Man tracking project.

Lots of fun here. Too bad that these things won't be around much longer as everything comes prefabricated and everything is starting to look just the same in every city and town and nook and cranny in the U.S.

LOST ART - CAR PARTS ARTWORK - IN BRAZIL

BEFORE YOU GO - See WARNING below.

This is so interesting. It's a nicely-put-together collection of photographs of unique sculptures made by individual artists at Auto Muffler and Suspension Shops in São Paulo, Brazil. S tay right where you are when you get to this page and click on the tiny pictures that are between the large photo and the description - and, also - to the right of the description. Click each tiny photo to see a larger version.

After you've looked at those photos, you can go to LOST ART - CAR PARTS II. Just as fascinating as the first page, wotj the muffler and suspension shop sculptures, these are photos of sculptures made by individual auto repair shop owners (or, I imagine, sometimes by friends of theirs who love doing this), throughout Brazil.

Unfortunately, these kinds of individual advertising efforts are going out of style and being replaced by "computer generated signs and banners." That's why these pages are called "LOST ART," and that's why the handmade sculptures have been documented here, so we can see them even after they are gone forever (but, of course, I would never have seen them at all, even if they stayed in place for the rest of eternity).

WARNING: There are some images on at least one other part of the site that many would consider somewhat pornographic (I don't say they are...I won't try to judge them but an unexpected glance at some small picture links made me realize that I didn't even want to find out). Just stick with the LOST ART pictures and you won't have to worry. It's not what's on the web so much as what we stick around and look at or read that's a problem, it seems to me. We can always ignore it. I just leave a site immediately if I inadvertently come across something that I don't want to look at or read. What bothers me is when it's forced upon me, in a large size and with no chance to avoid a close look. I decided just after I glimpsed those little pictures that I did not want to link to this site at all, then reason took hold of me and I typed this. A warning should suffice. The chance to see the photographs of the "auto parts" sculptures shouldn't be missed because of what's on other pages, I think. - Jean

I can hardly do better than he can to describe Steve Musulin's artwork, so I hope he won't mind if I quote from the "Artist's Statement" on his site.

HOW TO DRAW CARS by George Trosley
(Also, trucks, etc.)

Yes, he has a book on the subject, and a CD, for sale, but he very generously shows you pages of his book (which you can read easily on the computer screen, plus, of course, there are all the illustrations). Each picture page is a lesson. I got some tips there myself. He calls his book and CD HOW TO DRAW CARTOON CARS, but you can use these lessons to draw pictures that are not cartoonish at all. What's I really like is his "box method" of starting out the drawing, for cars or trucks or most any vehicles.

One online lesson is called HOW TO DRAW OLD CAR BODIES. Another sample lesson is called HOW TO DRAW MOTORCYCLES. Another is called HOW TO DRAW TIRES AND LIGHTS. There are even more sample lessons. To get to them, just click on the pictures of the book pages that are right there on the first page of the site. Each one has a different lesson.

There's a lot more on the site besides the drawing lessons. Just click on "Back to the TROSLEY WEBSITE" at the bottom of the page (under the pictures of the pages in the book).

Here's a site with VINTAGE TRACTOR PAINTINGS. Prints are for sale - some of these are VERY nice-looking - The first one isn't my favorite. Look to the right on the dark green background of the page and click on NEXT PICTURE to get to the next one, and so on.

SCULPTURE FROM SCRAPYARD FINDS

Jim Unsworth - Sculptor in London, England

This artist assembles his sculptures out of scrap yard finds (parts of old cars, mainly, it seems). The works are very appealing - They pull you in, and make you wish you could be there in person to be close to them and walk around them. Be sure and click on the small pictures to see the larger versions. I was surprised to learn the size of the sculptures.

A quote from the article:

"Unsworth loves steel as he finds it in the scrap yard: smooth and pristine or rusty and weathered; clean-edged and intact or jagged and fragmented. Already in the scrap yard he begins the process of artistic composition, as he selects a vocabulary of forms, textures and colours out of which a finished sculptural statement can eventually be formulated."

AUTOMOTIVE PHOTOGRAPHIC COLLAGES

Automotive photographic collages by Peter Tytla

See below for the URL to more "old car" artwork that's really different. The artist, Peter Tytla, makes very unique "old car" collages of large, detailed scenes that are quite captivating. They are apparently lovingly constructed, over a long time - not just thrown together overnight. The scenes are rather "strange," so if you do not even like the sound of "strange," you probably wouldn't like these. The rest of us, however, might be interested.

Galleries of his works are entitled: Gas Station, Used Car Lot, Farm Scene, Garage, Junk (Bone) Yards, and Other. This is really interesting artwork, and he has prints for sale - You can have him personalize the print you buy with your own photo added to the collage.
